About.
The
Current path of my practice is an inquiry into
the actual and implied physicality of mark making and how this may
impact upon the dynamics of causal systems.Focusing on particularly on
traces of the body and emotion in the use of materials.
The majority of my practice to date has been focused on handmade mark making, the processes of causal systems and the effect of unpredictability and chance. I make each work within predetermined parameters, applying controlled and labor intensive techniques as a means of describing a system. Each mark in a work is unique and records a moment in time and physical action but as the system runs its course, it illuminates the moments of chance that always exists when we press a tool against a surface. Control is always partial. Individual marks interact with each other, forming relationships that exceed the initial parameters and unpredictable images emerge.
As the parameters of
my systems have developed, I have introduced variants such as working into the
physical surface of the work, placing objects onto the surface and by layering
colour. This has caused the physicality of the marks to become more
accentuated, altering their interaction with the surface and creating new spatial
effects.
